Essential
Fatty Acids Can Affect Your Baby's Intelligence!
In 1998, after 3 years of research, The Life
Sciences Research Office (LSRO) of the American
Society for Nutritional Sciences released their
official report entitled "Assessment of Nutrient
Requirements for Infant Formulas." In the
document they recommend that all infant formulas
contain both linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha
linolenic acid (omega-3) in a maximum ratio of
6:1 (omega-6:omega-3). These essential fatty acids
(EFAs) occur naturally in mothers breast milk.
It is well documented that essential fatty acids
are important components of membranes present
in high concentration in the retina and brain
both pre- and post-natally. Studies have even
shown that infants with higher concentrations
of EFAs perform better on problem-solving tests
and have been related to higher IQs in later life.
70% of the total number of brain cells —
built to last a lifetime — are developed
before a child is even born. During this rapid
growth the fetus mobilizes the mother's stores
of EFAs which will diminish if the mother does
not maintain an adequate dietary level. (Post-partum
depression has been linked to low levels of EFAs!)
Mothers need to maintain their levels while breast
feeding. HEMPOLA hemp seed oil is an excellent
source of these EFAs. It contains omega-6 and
omega-3 in a 3:1 ratio which is perfectly balanced
for long-term consumption and the closest to the
recommended ratio of 6:1 for the fetus/infant.
HEMPOLA hemp seeds are cold-pressed to preserve
the natural integrity of these good fats, and
they are grown without the use of pesticides or
chemicals.
